Frequently Asked Questions
Most frequent questions and answers
Art Commission: Initial consultation
Exciting, I love to hear about what you want… let’s delve into your vision further. If you’re in Auckland, I can visit your home, office or empty space… that said I do love to travel! Wherever you are we can initially connect through email, and then have a video call to discuss and shape your project together. This process allows you to have your personal input into the art piece. If f relevant or required, you’ll receive a concept sketch, when you are happy with the composition, your artwork can then be commenced.
Art Commission Price, Costs & Required Deposit
Before I begin a commission, I require a deposit of 50% of the fee. The full balance to be paid on completion, pick-up or delivery/installation of the artwork. The total cost is based on size and intricacy of the subject. You will receive a quote and project brief beforehand, this includes a 35% non-refundable deposit to cover the initial costs. For larger sculptures or art installations, the necessary elements will need to be pre-purchased. This will be detailed in a separate invoice and must be settled before the commencement of work.
How long does an art commission take?
The completion time for a commission varies, ranging from a few weeks to several months, influenced by factors such as complexity, size, my existing art/painting commitments and waiting list. You’ll get updates along the way, and upon finishing the commission, I’ll provide a digital photo for your confirmation. Â
Shipping, Delivery or Installation
Your painting or art piece will be meticulously wrapped and shipped with tracking. Alternatively, if you’re within driving distance, I’m delighted to personally deliver it to you. In the case of a larger piece, where art installation has been discussed and agreed upon before the commission commences, this will be invoiced separately. Occasionally, a recommended company may handle specialized services for installation. We will thoroughly discuss and finalize all delivery and installation options to ensure your preferences and requirements are met.
Can I request changes or revisions to a commissioned artwork?
Erm… Can I have a bird with that? Yes, if it was in the initial agreement. I believe in a fair and reasonable approach to changes or revisions for commissioned artworks. During the creation process, you’ll have opportunities to provide feedback and collaborate with me to ensure the artwork meets your expectations. I value open communication, however, once the artwork receives your final approval, no further changes can be made to preserve its integrity and uniqueness.
Artist Copyright for your Art Commission
Kindly be aware that, although the commissioned painting becomes your property upon final payment, I, as the artist, retain the copyright for the image. Any reproduction or creation of prints based on the painting is strictly prohibited without obtaining my written permission.
