Crafting Artful Collaborations: A Journey with Interior Designers, Architects, and a Shipping Magnate

Hey art lovers! 🎨✨

I’m reflecting on a cool project from back in the day, where I teamed up with some awesome folks—interior designers, architects, and even a shipping bigwig—to sprinkle a bit of art where you might not expect it. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane with this collab!

Teaming up with fellow artists, talented interior designers, and visionary architects is like finding the perfect brushstroke – it’s all about the synergy. A while back, I had the joy of working with an amazing team to create something truly extraordinary.

Imagine walking into a space where the floor is a work of art. That’s what this Pietra Dura artwork installation brings—a stunning stone marquetry technique. In this piece, three grades of pounamu greenstone (jade) and the iridescence of paua shell come together in a koru design. The koru (Māori for ‘loop or coil’) is a spiral shape based on the appearance of a new unfurling silver fern frond, a symbol of creation. It’s not just a floor; it’s a masterpiece beneath your feet, blending natural elements into a seamless, eye-catching entranceway.

Got An Art Colab idea?

"Got an art idea? Let's make it happen! Chat with me, and let's bring your vision to life!"

Absolutely love diving into art collaborations! It’s like orchestrating a symphony of creativity where many hands come together to create something truly epic.

Here is why I’m passionate about collabs:

  1. Diverse Perspectives: I cherish the wealth of diverse minds and viewpoints that come into play, adding layers of richness and funness (is that a word? it should be) to the creative process.

  2. Good Vibes: The synergy and energy that emerge when individuals collaborate often lead to unexpected and remarkable outcomes.

  3. Enriching Experience: Collaborations raise the bar, providing opportunities to up-skill, with each participant bringing unique skills and knowledge to the table.

  4. Surprise Element: I max out on the heightened element of surprise, two minds, or many minds make the journey more dynamic… is that number 2?

  5. Community Building: It may sound a bit buddy-buddy, but I reckon colabs foster a sense of camaraderie, connecting doers and creators in a shared pursuit of artistic excellence.

Now, let’s keep it real! Note to self & everyone – make sure it’s a good match

While I’m a huge fan, here are some reasons why collabs can sometimes be a bit challenging:

  1. Coordination Hurdles: Aligning schedules, project management and coordinating efforts can be a logistical forest… like getting lost in the Kaimai Range… one must plan ahead. (ask me about that later)

  2. Creative Match: Diverse and different perspectives can sometimes lead to creative differences that need to be navigated.

  3. The Comms: Ensuring clear communication among collaborators is crucial but can be challenging at times.

  4. Decision-Making Complexities: Making decisions as a duo, or a group often take more time and effort than numero uno, individual decision-making.

  5. Balancing Contributions: Ensuring each contributor’s voice is heard and valued can be a delicate balancing act.

Despite the challenges, or maybe because of them… the magic, fun and results that unfold in collabs is worth the effort!
